Orveas Bay ResortAbout Orveas Bay Resort and your hosts Ron & June WilliamsDear Guests ... Another busy year has gone by, our 12th year in operation. It seems as though we don’t have an end of season now. It does slow down a bit in the fall but we still have many guests mid week and do not have vacancies on the weekends. Weather does not seem to have much effect as guests can cocoon on the rainy, cool days, lots of books, magazines, videos and cd’s to enjoy the warm indoors in front of the fireplaces. On the warm sunny days, time is spent hiking the secluded beaches and watching the surfers playing in the waves at Jordan River. Or, just swaying in a hammock listening to the sounds of nature. A great time to travel by missing the ferry line-ups and taking advantage of the mid and low season rates! There is a rumor circulating that we will be serviced by Shaw cable in early January. If this is the case then we will be able to offer high speed Internet to our guests in 2012. (Although, unless it is really necessary, it is a great time to take a break from the outside world.) We will update the web site when it is confirmed. It was a sad day when we had to start charging our guests HST (tax at 12%) rather than the former GST at 5%. The majority of the population in BC were opposed to this tax and in a Province wide referendum the tax was voted out. The good news it is to be phased out but the bad news the government is saying that process may take 3 years! This fall the weather has been lovely and warm, at the time of writing this it is mid November and the flowers are still in bloom. Perhaps it is to forgive Mother Nature for the cold, wet spring and first weeks of last summer! We have planted about 1000 bulbs and what the squirrels don’t dig up we will enjoy with our spring guests. We will be taking a 2-month break this winter, doing some traveling and exploring new countries. Although we will have our laptop with us during our travels, (we may not have internet access the entire time) it will be easier to take all reservation requests when we return in early February.
